Insecticides (Liquid Concentrates)

A range of liquid concentrate formulations are provided all of which have been designed to work in different situations.

Suspension Concentrate (SC)

In this formulation type an insecticide active ingredient is adsorbed onto a filler which is then suspended in a liquid matrix (usually water). This formulation type has many of the benefits of a WP without some of the disadvantages. SC’s are non-dusty, easier to dose and disperse in water. Like WP’s when an SC is sprayed onto a sorbtive surface the insecticidal particles remain on the surface of the substrate where they are readily available to the target pest. Suspension concentrates therefore provide a good level of residual control on a wide range of surfaces.

An example of a suspension concentrate offered by PelGar is given below.

Vulcan 5 SC (HSE 7336)
Contains 50 g/l alpha-cypermethrin
Available in a 500 ml auto-dose bottle. The standard rate of use is 25ml product diluted in 5 litres water. A standard compression sprayer applies the product.

Suspo-Emulsion (SE)

This type of formulation has the benefits indicated above for SC’s but also incorporates another active ingredient, often a knockdown agent, in the liquid phase so combining good residual control with fast flushing and knockdown of the target pest.

Tyrant 50/50 SE (HSE 7335)
Contains 50 g/l alpha-cypermethrin and 50 g/l tetramethrin
Available in a 500 ml auto-dose bottle. The standard rate of use is 25ml product diluted in 5 litres water. A standard compression sprayer applies the product.

Micro-Emulsion (ME)

This formulation type carries the active ingredient as extremely small droplets, sometimes referred to as nano-technology, in a high surfactant liquid phase. ME concentrates have a slightly ‘soapy smell' and dilute in water to provide a clear, stable ready-for-use liquid. This provides a clear concentrate that dilutes in water to provide a clear, very stable, dilute product. The small droplets of active substance provide a very large number of point sources of contact that make it difficult for the target insect to avoid on a treated surface. The high loading of surfactants also facilitates the rapid penetration of the insect’s cuticle.

This formulation type provides excellent residual control on non-sorbtive surfaces such as metal, ceramic tiles etc. but is not as effective on sorbtive surfaces when compared with SC’s and WP’s.

PelGar has developed a range of ME's incorporating combinations of conventional killing agents, knockdown agents, metabolic synergists and insect growth regulators.

Tyrant Super ME (HSE 7677)
Contains 50 g/l alpha-cypermethrin and 50 g/l tetramethrin plus the metabolic synergist piperonyl butoxide
The standard rate of use is 60ml product diluted in 5 litres water. While this product is suitable for use against a wide range of crawling insects it has been particularly formulated for the control of Red Mite in poultry houses. A standard compression sprayer applies the product.

Alphaban Super ME
Alphaban Super ME (HSE 7689)
Alphaban Super ME (HSE 7689)
An ME based on 50 g/l alpha-cypermethrin plus an exceptionally high rate of the metabolic synergist piperonyl butoxide. The standard rate of use is 60ml product diluted in 5 litres water. The product is applied by a standard compression spra
yer. Whilst this product is suitable for use against a wide variety of crawling insects it has been particularly formulated for the control of Red Mite in poultry houses where the mite populations have shown to be difficult to control using other pyrethroid products.

Stingray (HSE 7685)
Contains 50 g/l alpha-cypermethrin, 50 g/l tetramethrin, 20 g/l of the IGR pyriproxyfen and metabolic synergist piperonyl butoxide
The standard rate of use is 25ml product diluted in 5 litres water. Stingray is available either as a liquid concentrate in an easy-to-use 250 ml auto-dose bottle or packed in convenient water-soluble sachets. This product combines the benefits of several active materials and offers the best chance of control for all pests. The ultimate insecticide. A standard compression sprayer applies the product.

Oil in Water Emulsions (EW)

In this formulation type the active ingredient is dissolved in a small quantity of oil that is then dispersed in water to produce a stable milky liquid. This type of formulation greatly reduces the amount of organic solvent used when compared to, for example, emulsifiable concentrates.

As with ME’s this formulation type is particularly useful to use on non-sorbtive surfaces where the active ingredient will not be sucked into the matrix of the substrate.

PelGar has particularly used this formulation type to develop a range of products based on the insect growth regulator pyriproxyfen.

Cimetrol
Cimetrol (HSE 7453)
Cimetrol (HSE 7453)
Contains 50 g/l alpha-cypermethrin, 20 g/l pyriproxyfen and 50 g/l tetramethrin
The standard rate of use is 25ml product diluted in 5 litres water. This product provides excellent long-term control of crawling insects and is especially formulated to provide effective control of bedbugs and fleas. A standard compression sprayer applies the product.

Nylar 4 EW (HSE 6373)
Contains 40 g/l of the insect growth regulator pyriproxyfen
The standard rate of use is 25 ml in 5 litres of water for cockroach control or 10 ml in 5 litres water for flea control. Can be used alone or ‘tank-mixed’ with several common killing agents. Unsurpassed for flea control as it affects gravid females, larvae and eggs. A standard compression sprayer applies the product.
